Nissan previews the 2016 Maxima

Photos: Nissan

Nissan’s design group has been putting out some of the most striking and impressive designs in the auto world. Just look at the latest Infiniti concepts and the swooping lines of the 2015 Murano that resembles something that is more conceptual in form than a production crossover.

Nissan brings that new design language to their flagship sedan in the new 2016 Maxima. Making a stealthy debut in Sunday’s Super Bowl commercials, the “4-door sports car” features the company’s V-Motion front end and their new “floating roof” that is also a signature design element in the Murano. No performance specs have been released yet, but we’ll know more once the car makes its official worldwide debut at this year’s New York Auto Show.

Chevrolet reveals the new and improved 2016 Volt

Photos: Chevrolet

Though the Chevy Volt made a lot of noise when it began hitting showrooms in 2010, it didn’t quite become the Prius-killer that General Motors had hoped for. This year, Chevy is introducing an all-new Volt and they’re hoping to grab some attention with a sleek new design and a much more efficient engine.

The company’s new two-motor drive unit is lighter and improves upon the previous model with an all-electric range of 50 miles. Couple that with the 1.5L gas engine and you’ll be able to get more than 400 miles of range. You also get a bit more power off the line as the new powertrain has a 19% stronger acceleration time from 0-30 mph.

The new Volt also features a “Regen on Demand” feature that lets you control energy regeneration with a paddle behind the steering wheel, a new braking system, and a much quieter ride. Fuel economy is rated at 41 mpg and 102 mpg-e. Charging will take about 13 hours on a 120V outlet and four and a half hours on a 240V.

The next-generation Volt will hit showrooms later this year, Pricing TBD, More information at

The 640-hp 2016 Cadillac CTS-V

Our jaws were already on the floor when they unveiled the 189 mph ATS-V, but Cadillac had something much more sinister under their sleeves. At the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the company will unveil the most powerful car in their 100+ year history, the 640-hp Cadillac CTS-V.

Packing a massive 630 lb-ft of torque, the new CTS-V is powered by a 6.2L V8 that can get from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds and can hit 201 mph. As you can imagine (and see), the CTS-V separates itself from the rest of the CTS stable with carbon fiber exterior components, Brembo brakes, third generation magnetic ride control, an air devouring grille, wider fenders, and tweaked aerodynamics throughout the entirety of the vehicle. The 2016 CTS-V will hit showrooms later next summer.
